Goals for 2011

I’m biting the bullet and posting these, subject to later change:

ONGOING

  • Save 40 per cent of income.
  • Keep eating out to $160 a month.
  • donating to charity every month.
  • Text one friend a week.
  • Learn to confidently use full manual settings on my dSLR.
  • Read 100 books (I’ve set up a challenge on Goodreads; I know at the pace I read I can easily make this if I keep up momentum. But if I don’t I won’t be too sad.)
  • Continue running at least once a week, and run a 10k

ONE OFFS (all travel related)

  • Score a travel writing assignment.
  • Take a trip somewhere warm on my birthday (thinking Vanuatu, Niue or similar).
  • Take a big trip later in the year.

I’m also adding to this a few smaller things I really need to get done in the next couple of months (yep, that’s how lazily I roll):

  • Take coats to drycleaners
  • Arrange dentist appointments
  • Book passports

And you may have seen my other post on the non-measurable things I want to implement more of, too.

Even if circumstances affect my travel goals and my savings goals, I still feel better for finally having posted this!

Good luck with your goals for this year. I Just posted mine today as well. Looks like we are both a bit behind the 8 ball. Are you trying to save 40% of all income, or just your job related income?

I’m thinking of planning a large trip for this year as well – I’ve already got the frequent flyer miles, I just need to pick a spot at this point!

Oh, all income, though I don’t know how much extra I might make this year..

I LOVE the donate to charity once a month goal. That is a great one!

why is texting a friend a goal?
do you feel that you’re not communicating with them enough?

    I ask because I have the opposite problem. I text too much. I need to cut back. ^__^;

40% is an amazing goal. Depending on how I hit my income goal, I think I will save anywhere from 30%-40% gross. Here’s to an awesome 2011!

That’s an amazing savings goal. I find the most difficult things to squeeze into my schedule is the periodic things (like scheduling appointments and fixing some broken thing…like my wireless on my computer that’s been busted for 2 weeks now). Anyway, I’m glad I’m not the only one that has trouble getting to those little odds and ends things.

I like the goal of saving 40% of your income. Is it a stretch or a very realistic one?

Realistic, unless my job situation changes…

    Saving 40% would be AMAZING!

I love the dSLR goal. I bought The Wife one for Christmas not this past year BUT THE YEAR BEFORE! and I am pretty sure she still has no clue how to use it so if you come across a good resource let me know.
