I want a place to call my own

  • Somewhere I can wholeheartedly commit to a herb and veggie garden and a compost heap instead of thinking “what if we move in the next year?” as we always seem to do.
  • Somewhere with a garage for T’s motorcycle and where he can work on greasy boy things.
  • Somewhere with a kitchen I’m not constantly banging my head on the rangehood, and I don’t have to put my back out trying to get into the corner cupboard; where I have counter space on which to roll out pizza dough and to place the food mixer I would finally be able to purchase.
  • Somewhere the hot water in the kitchen is actually hot.
  • Somewhere with more storage, so we can organise our stuff better, and leave it that way for a long, long time.

It’s almost enough to make me throw in the towel, say f- it (who needs to see the world anyway?) and just focus on saving for a house.

Almost.

See, when you put it like that, I start to rethink my priorities! With the wedding and wanting to travel etc., saving for a house hasn’t been top of our list – we rent, but we rent a nice two-storey house so other than not being able to paint, we’re pretty much there. It’s just so hard saving $10k for a down payment when the whole WORLD is out there, waiting to be seen…

My roommate is buying a house and we are totally planning on a veggie garden and composting!

I want my own place so, SO bad. And it looks like it’s at least a few years away. My goal is by the time I’m 30–so that gives me 3 years!

    i hope, i hope, i hope…

Some people regret buying a house first and then not ever being able to save up the funds to travel the world because life gets in the way. How many people regret seeing the world first and wishing instead they had put the money towards a house? You’ll get your herb and veggie garden and everything else someday… after you see the world 😉

Hey! I totally understand. It’d be nice to be able to fix up a place or make it your own without worrying if there’s too many holes in the wall…
