I’ve had the pleasure of some pretty mouthwatering meals over the past few weeks. That got me thinking – where would I take you out to eat if you were visiting me (assuming, of course, we share similar tastes)?
The frugal food tour
Breakfast: Muzza’s Pies – because pies are awesome and Muzza’s is the real deal.
Lunch: Dominion Rd for delicious Asian food – whether it’s silken noodles at Shaolin Kung Fu, spicy pork mince dan dan noodles at Eden Noodle, dumplings at Barilla/New Flavour, or something else. There is no shortage of mouthwatering choice.
Dinner: Burger Burger – the best damn burgers I’ve ever had in my life. Bun, patty, vegetables, cheese, sauce – every ingredient is pitch-perfect and together create a completely scrumptious symphony in your mouth.
The fancier food tour
Breakfast: Parnell French market – goodies of your choice.
Lunch: Seafood by the waterfront – down around Wynyard Quarter, probably somewhere around the Fish Markets.
Dinner: Cazador – homey, unpretentious and consistently good, though caters more for the meat eaters among us.
We’d also have to make at least one dessert stop at some point – Kohu Rd for gourmet, artisan goodness, or all the way out to somewhere like Kumeu for fresh fruit ice cream. Be a crime not to.
One of the most popular places to eat here is called Peter’s Pasta – a tiny little authentic Italian restaurant which I have yet to dine at. Everyone raves about it all the time, and there’s always a line-up going out the door at dinnertime, so it must be delicious!
But if I were to choose my favourite, it would be The Brownstone. It’s a French-style restaurant that uses local ingredients; a little pricy but so delicious! And for breakfast there’s a little hole-in-the-wall diner called Scott’s where they serve the best homestyle breakfasts.
Hmmm, it all sounds awesome to me! I was in Auckland a few years ago but sadly I think I missed all these places (well I was really on a budget then so the fancier places would have been out of the question anyway, but still!) Now I’m hungry.
We have a well-known Filipino restaurant here in our place. The prices are very affordable and their staffs are very friendly too.
Better than Hook Burger?!! I must try this place. Well, besides ones I’ve mentioned before, there is a place called Malbec in Pasadena that has excellent Argentine food, which has a strong Italian influence. It’s my special occasion go-to spot. There is a pupuseria where I used to grab 4 different pupusas (veggie, cheese, meat, etc) at under $2 each…it’s heaven. And when it’s time for desserts, I’d insist on the Wholesome Choice bakery or 85 degrees for cream cheese goodness.
Possibly! Definitely on par, at least. Different sort of style – little more of a homey/handmade vibe.
Primanti Brothers’! They’ve made it Pittsburgh fashion to have fries and coleslaw on your sandwich. (I’m not sure we should be proud of that?)
Mmmmm. If I get the chance to visit Auckland, we are SO going to Dominion Road. My life in DC has a sad, sad lack of good Asian food so I try to get my fix every time I travel!
