Winter is coming…. Dreaming of a tropical birthday getaway

I’ve been lucky to have spent my last three birthdays abroad. Rarotonga, 2011. Sydney, 2012. Prague, 2013.

Alas, that streak eventually had to end. Seeing as I managed to skip winter entirely last year, I’m finding it abysmally cold  right now (by Auckland standards, obviously) and it’s not helped by the fact our little house has the chililest tiled floors ever known to man.

So here I am, dreaming of tropical island escapes.

A water bungalow in the Maldives, maybe?

Getting close to the action at Mt Yasur, Vanuatu

Or some French flavour in New Caledonia.

And of course, Niue is still on my bucket list. I’ll never forget the look the travel agent gave me when I first enquired about Pacific Island holidays back in 2011. “Niue is very … natural,” he said, appearing to dampen what might have been a smirk. Fine by me.

It’s just over one month till my birthday. I have no idea what I’ll be doing, so universe, I’m open to options!

I’m dreaming of a place that is warm too. It is so damn cold here in Christchurch.

I’m not really planning a warm getaway this year. I happen to really enjoy the winter weather as I grew up in Florida. I actually didn’t see snow until I was 23!

I read about Amsterdam in a book and put that on my list.

I .. don’t really want to travel. Yes I like to travel but with a baby I really just would like a whole day off to myself without having to pump milk every 3 hours. That’s my dream vacation right now. *sigh*… a whole year left to go.

Wow, yes you are lucky. I wish I can do that.

Where I am is getting really hot and I wish I could be in the winter.

Ah, this post makes me think of my upcoming winter vacation, which I’m 95% sure will be spent in Hawaii ;D

I have to admit, I’ve been scouring Groupon for tropical getaways recently, and it’s not even winter here!

How lucky to have missed winter!. The one just had where I’m from was dreadful, and I love heat and humidity so much that I’m not sure I can take another one! Niue sounds perfect – what’s wrong with natural?! haha

Oh yes winter has hit so suddenly in Auckland this year! I’m dreaming of an island getaway as well alas I don’t think it will be happening anytime soon unfortunately. I’m really dreaming of Hawaii!

I’ve just spent the past hour or so reading many of your posts. We have much in common – a love for good food and travel that is balanced out with some financial sensibility. I’ve not heard of Niue so thanks for alerting me to its existence! Looking forward to finding out where you decide to go.
