Link love (Powered by cathartic conversations)

nzmuse link love roundup

Based on purely anecdotal evidence, I’ve reached the conclusion that Kiwis tend to find it easy to adjust to coming home after an extended trip.

Basically every single RTW blog I’ve read (mainly by North Americans) has bemoaned the impossibility of re-acclimatising.

Aside from finding the city really SMALL at first, we felt like we slotted right back in. And I just keep hearing the same kind of thing. I guess we’re lucky to live in a relatively awesome place, expensive though it may be.

I have to agree. New Zealand has been our base for 11 years and we always find it easier to slot back into life here than even a visit to the states. We are lucky.

I don’t know, I’ve often had that feeling of my chest constricting when I’ve landed back in Christchurch – a much, much smaller city than AK of course – but eventually I settle in. It does seem to be a theme with US travel blogs. Maybe we are just lucky that we happen to live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Perhaps that’s a little idealistic – I think the secret is staying away so long that you actually want to come home.

I don’t have a hard time returning home to the States. I tend to think that those people either: hadn’t traveled a lot before the trip they’re blogging about, don’t have work/life balance and know that when they get back it’s going to be a big life shift, or live in an o.k. place.

I love where I live so I am always so happy return and to see the mountains as we’re about to land. I’m in Australia now and am starting to get excited about returning home.
