Oof, sorry to hear things are so tough. Tim’s disability means he’s here with me every day. Other than a few trips — maybe a total of 3 months? — Tim and I have been together all day every day for 7 years. It definitely takes its toll. I tell people we’ve actually be married 1/3 longer than most people who married in 2008.

Anyway, point being I can empathize, especially with the financial worry that unemployment causes. Is your spouse seeing a therapist?

There are a lot of feelings of worthlessness and depression that come with unemployment, and it doesn’t help the relationship. Then you’re not just dealing with the exhaustion/financial implications of being the only one working, you’re having to cope with someone who is depressed and who may not be getting the help needed.

I recently found out that Tim’s depression is far worse than I ever imagined. The fibromyalgia med he’s trying is also an anti-depressant, so I hope that helps. Because he gave me a glimpse in, and it’s a pretty dark, deep abyss. No wonder he’s so inert and clingy! Sigh.

It sounds like T just can’t catch a break, and you need some de-stress time. I really have no advice, but know that I’m thinking of you both and sending good thoughts your way.

Oh dear 🙁 Not a fun place to be. I understand how joblessness/financial stress affect a relationship. Hoping your situation improves soon! xo

Oh I feel your pain. My then BF and myself were both laid off during the recession and it was the worst. I wouldn’t wish that pain on anyone! Sending positive vibes…

My friend, I am sending you good energy. Make sure that you manage your mental health and physical well-being. It’s not selfish-it’s necessary. Is it possible for you to have a “girl’s weekend?” So that you can have some time to yourself?
