Goals

2012

There are some things in life you just can’t measure. Hence, these not-so-SMART things I want to incorporate into my life this year.

For everything else, there’s MasterCard. Or, you know, actual goals with actual milestones.

ONGOING

  • Save 40 per cent of income.
  • Keep eating out to $160 a month.
  • Donate to charity every month.
  • Learn to confidently use full manual settings on my dSLR.
  • No new clothing purchases except in dire straits
  • Continue running at least once a week.

By the end of 2012, I’m hoping to have saved:

  • At least $10,000 for one big overseas trip (US / Europe / Around the world – unsure yet, but leaning towards Europe for honeymoon)
  • At least $3,000 for a South Island roadtrip
  • At least $5,000  for a wedding

And the long-term plan…

See here for my very rough up-to-the-age-of-30 plan, which looks something like this:

2013

European honeymoon. Possibly around $10,000.

2014

US road trip, hopefully starting in Vancouver before heading down the west coast, stopping in the South, and up the east coast. Again, possibly around $10,000.

2015

Asia! Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau. Earmarking less than $10,000 for this one.

2016

Save like a beast.

2017

Save like a beast.

2018

Have $50,000 or so ready for a down payment.
