I need inspiration

Among the list of bloggers I love is Chelsea. Read any one of her entries and you’ll understand why. Is it any surprise that she was voted most distinctive voice on 20SB?

But I digress. Her latest entry nearly made me cry. We were right there with her, on the edge of our seats, we could nearly taste Japan and Ireland and hear that heinous ‘ra ra ooh la la’ refrain as she was literally thisclose to booking a gig with Lady Gaga.

I am so in awe of her talent, of her drive and of her determination. I wish that I was a tenth as motivated. I wish I knew what I was going after, and was going after it with all of my heart.

I need to work out what the hell I want, and I need to go get it. I need to live life, REALLY live it to the fullest, because I feel like I’m drifting with the current, waiting for something to happen, waiting for life to kick me in the butt, for something big to start. And I just can’t do that, because I don’t want to wake up and find ten years gone by and nothing changed.

It’s really hard to know what you want. I’m in need of inspiration and lately all I do is run after work and on weekends (it’s part of marathon training but part of it is also needing to do something to push myself physically and mentally).

I’m constantly being asked by managers who are hiring what are my career goals. And my industry is so large I can’t even pinpoint what it is except I’m eager to roll up my sleeves and work.

What I’d suggest is sitting down with a pen and paper and outlining what are your biggest priorities, needs/wants, goals and deal breakers. Sometimes getting together or calling an old friend helps me with a much-needed kick.

A lot of us in the blog sphere are here to help so feel free to reach out!

    Oh, that story was heart-wrenching.

That said, not all of us have talent or interests that line up perfectly with the kinds of jobs we’re likely to get. Consider that your work doesn’t have to be your life, and it doesn’t have to be your passion. Maybe you want to work really hard at something that pays well enough for you to save up to do the things you really want to do, either as a form of early retirement or even just during some long vacations.
