But I don’t feel like a grownup

This year I turn 22. Which puts me firmly in the ‘twentysomething’ camp.

WTF? When did this happen?

Can I still wear short shorts? Am I too old to eat popcorn for dinner? Will I ever be able to park properly, enabling me to drive on my own? Why do I not own an iron? Or know how to deal with any cuts of chicken, barring the trusty chicken breast?

You know what brought this on? The fact that I was trying on a dress – and yes, I did end up buying it – and thought that it was TOO SHORT. (It wasn’t, by the way. And I’m not the kind to wear belt-sized skirts that don’t cover my ass.) The temporary insanity has mostly passed, but I can’t quite shake that feeling of time marching on.

BAHAHAHA…I totally relate to this post and I’m 31! I’m at the exact same place you are, and I’m ten years older. Oof.

I have moments where I tell friends that I can’t buy those really cute super short shorts because ‘I am in my thirties, and that is not allowed! I have to be more conservative now!’ and they just laugh and say that I’m being silly. As long as you can pull off the look, ESP. IN YOUR TWENTIES, do it!

I do not ever iron anything, and I don’t own a hair dryer. I don’t even know how to drive stick-shift. these ‘but I *should* be able to ____ because I am X age’ moments never ever stop…and will torture you if you let them!

Your twenties are all for fun, trust me (but keep saving in your retirement accounts)! You will look back in ten years and wonder why you worried so much instead of taking advantage of being 22! No one expects too much of you and you can get away with almost anything at that age.

I’m sure I’ll look back at these days when I’m 40, and wonder why I was being so silly about things I thought I should be able to do. People change when it’s necessary, and when they are ready. I am a late bloomer, and I’ve come to accept that. It helps that my friends won’t accept the age card from me, either. πŸ™‚

p.s. my mom still has popcorn for dinner sometimes, and she’s 62. πŸ™‚

Yes, No, Yes, No, and Yes.

Promise. In the spectrum of your 20s, 22 is still good times. πŸ™‚

I turned 22 in November and most of the time, I feel like I’m still 16. I live with my mom, work a dead-end part-time job, and go to school full-time. So I don’t feel like a grown-up at all, considering I don’t even pay my own bills! And yes, popcorn is always a good substitute for dinner!

OMG you are such a young pup. I am 26 and wish everyday that I had my early 20s again. πŸ™‚ And yes, you can still wear short shorts because I still rock them every summer. πŸ™‚ And will continue to do so until I don’t look good in them anymore!!! Congrats on moving on up in the 20s something world. It’s fabulous. πŸ˜‰

You’re only as old as you feel. And that age can chage daily…

Happy (early, belated?) Bday! 22 is awesome. I’m 23, and I totally agree with Revanche’s answers.

I actually have never been a fan of short shorts because I have THUNDER THIGHS, but if I could not vomit every time I saw myself in a pair, I’d probably wear them forever.

You know, I have the same conundrum as you though, whenever I walk into Forever 21. Like, should I stop going there now that I’m 23?

you just made me feel old. thanks. =P

I actually remember 22 fondly. In my mind, I will always be 22. That was a good year for me. Everything felt so GOOD in 22. You’re not too young. You’re not too old. JUUUUST right. Enjoy being 22 girl!! =P

I am 26 and I still feel 13! It seems you never really get used to being older.

Oh and I almost forgot to mention this. This may not be the best time since you are having the I-am-getting-olde-blues, but now you have to update your profit description since you are no longer a “21-year-old graduate.”

    You’re still a baby – it’s all good!

You’re definitely a baby! I turn 26 in July….**26**!! (Holy crap, that means I’m more than half way through my 20’s….and what have I done?!! Nothing!!)

My personal breakdown aside, do whatever you want! I didn’t learn to drive at all until I was almost 22 (just about your age, actually), I didn’t iron a single piece of clothing until I moved out of my parents house at age 25, and raw chicken still creeps me out. So live it up, and don’t worry about what you don’t know just yet!! Oh, and provided your legs look good….wear anything as short as you want! (Just not to work, please keep it closer to the knees for work. And please don’t “show-cha your chocha!”)

Time definitely goes by way too fast as we get older.

    Haha, 22 is so young!

I am 26 and really, I think I feel 26. I wear miniskirts because I have nice legs but don’t wear short shorts because they aren’t THAT nice. Sometimes I make my mom do my laundry whn I’m visiting. I can do my own taxes (with TurboTax), but would probably eat cereal for dinner every night if it were left up to me.

Don’t ever let your age dictate anything, and don’t assign your feelings an age, either. Do what feels right for you, and yyou will never mind another birthday!
