NZMuse - Link love roundup with awesome reads from the week

I’m feeling too lazy to compile a montly eats post. One highlight: Wildfire! The Churrasco is a meaty all-you-can-eat option, with food brought to your tables on the regular. The roast lamb nearly made me cry, it was so tender and tasty. The spiced pork absolutely burst with flavour, and again, the roast veggies zinged all the way through with every bite.

Also: anyone have a favourite Italian restaurant in Auckland?

This week’s links

The older I get the more I realise this is true: there is plenty of money out there – it’s just about figuring out how to get people to give it to you.

When doing what you love doesn’t pay – what next?

Life advice from the president of Y Combinator. Here are my five faves:

  • Whether or not money can buy happiness, it can buy freedom, and that’s a big deal. Also, lack of money is very stressful.
  • If you think you’re going to regret not doing something, you should probably do it. Regret is the worst, and most people regret far more things they didn’t do than things they did do.
  • Remember how intensely you loved your boyfriend/girlfriend when you were a teenager? Love him/her that intensely now. Remember how excited and happy you got about stuff as a kid? Get that excited and happy now.
  • Existential angst is part of life. It is particularly noticeable around major life events or just after major career milestones. It seems to particularly affect smart, ambitious people.
  • The days are long but the decades are short.

I agree that lack of money is very stressful. You can’t sleep properly at night thinking that you don’t have enough money for your needs.

“Whether or not money can buy happiness, it can buy freedom, and that’s a big deal.”

This. So much. The more money I have saved, the less I worry about money, which is a super big deal. I get anxious and stressed really easily and I’ve always tracked my money to the penny, even though I don’t really need to anymore. At this point it’s just a habit, but I used to use it to guilt myself over my spending. Money helps to ease my need for stringent, careful planning and gives me flexibility. It also helps bridge our personality differences (me the planner and him the never-planning). Not worrying about money is incredibly freeing.

Been following your blog for a while – one of your posts even inspired me to visit Te Waihou. 🙂

My fave Italian restaurant in Auckland is probably Di Vino Bistro. I’ve only been twice – their opening hours aren’t terribly conducive as they don’t open weekends – but in terms of great food for good prices they’re the best IMO. Bonus, they take Entertainment Cards (or used to last year when I went).

I just looked them up on Zomato and it seems they’ve gotten some bad rap for their customer service, but I’ve never had a problem with their service personally.

Meh, service is the least of my worries. The TripAdvisor ratings are awesome! I hadn’t heard of this place before, will definitely have to check it out. Thanks 😀

Awesome, hope you like it. 🙂

I also just recalled that there’s another Italian place that I love – Archie’s Pizzeria in Newmarket. They’re a bit pricey for dinner, but their mains (pizza, pasta, etc) are $14 each for lunch, which is a total steal IMO. And it’s not some fake deal where they give you smaller or worse versions of the mains, either. The atmosphere is very casual, which is great if you just want good food, but probably not the best place for a romantic meal.

If you don’t mind a shameless plug, I wrote a review on it some time ago: http://kiwifoodie.co.nz/archies-pizzeria-newmarket/
