Mt Albert. 3 bed, 2 bath, double garage. 15 min offpeak from the city. Asking price: $629,000.
(Also up there – no price mentioned but at least in a similar range – maybe more. 3 bed, 1 bath, double garage.)
I was going to post links to listings that would be in our hypothetical projected budget for comparison…but it got too depressing.
…sometimes it can be a bit disheartening to look at your long term goals and realize how long they actually are going to be
Sadly… The going price of most homes in Toronto is about $600,000. ~__~;
Don’t forget though… You can always MAKE your dream home. Buy cheap and then slowly renovate. Fixer Uppers are great for young couples. 🙂
Unfortunately, there are not too many do-uppers left in these areas. Even old villas in the Auckland city region might hover around 500k?
There are definitely douppers to be had much further out (think west) but the area isn’t as good.
It’s a location thing more than the actual building sometimes.
It’s all about compromise, I guess.
That’s exactly how I feel… It’s so depressing how much stuff around here costs!
Wow! That sucks how much housing costs there! I’ve been looking into moving next spring for us and it would actually be CHEAPER for us to have a mortgage in some cases then rent the 2-bedroom with a yard that we want. Now we just have to decide if we are even close to being ready for the commitment of home ownership….
I simply cannot imagine a situation where renting is on par with/more expensive than a mortgage, but it seems that’s the case in some part of North America. Bizarre stuff, I say.
That IS depressing. Looking at the house, then the interest rates, the length of mortgage debt… damn.
