Playing tourist in Bangkok

A photo essay from a day out

We happened across this old fort and building while hunting for Phra Athit pier.

Then found a new perspective out on the water.

We didn’t make it across to the Temple of Dawn (which I kept calling Temple of Doom)…

We did, however, head inside the grounds of Wat Pho, temple to end all temples.wat pho bangkok temple

Highlight? The giant reclining Buddha, complete with mother-of-pearl feet.

It was a real honour to witness Buddhist visitors pay their respects at the temple. I can only imagine how meaningful that must be.

Those pictures are awesome! I have never seen such feet before.

And is that temple a legitimate temple where near-silence is enforced, or is it mostly a tourist attraction? If that’s a legitimate temple, then I think that I’d like to visit someday.

Ooh! Despite hating the rest of Bangkok, I went to Wat Pho and liked it. It is gorgeous. Even got blessed by a Buddhist monk, though he wasn’t allowed to touch me, and wore out that red string til it broke. Also glad to see you weren’t caught up in the market explosion there today. :/

Great photographs! Never been, but I definitely want to more than ever, now. Great work with depth-of-field adjustments on camera.
