  • Spot the lie

In one of my first classes last year, we all went around the group and said three things about ourselves. Two were true, one was a lie.

Anyway, as a couple of other bloggers have done this as a post, I’m jumping on the bandwagon!

#1 – My dad has something like 9 or 10 (even I don’t know) siblings.

    #2 – I still don’t have my full driver’s licence.

#3 – I once broke my ankle after falling into a drain.

  • My foodie confessions…

    (stolen from The Asian Pear)

I have no sense of portion sizes. Coupled with very little self-control, is it any wonder I eat to the point of bloatation more often than I should? Is bloatation even a word? If not, I just coined it.

I don’t really like fruit. I like berries and melons. The odd apple, orange, mandarin, kiwifruit, grape or banana. I could go a few weeks without eating any.

Similarly, there are days when I don’t eat any vegetables at all. Something I’m working on. Really.

I am super, super picky about the textures in my food. I don’t eat the fat on meat. Tofu. Squid. Jelly. Uh…and more, I’m sure, but I can’t think of any at the moment.

More insanity: I like cauliflower but won’t touch broccoli. I like ice cream, but not once it’s melted. I only drink soda when it is still super fresh and fizzy to the point of pain.

Golden, salty McDonald’s chips are one of the best foods in the world.

When I’m sharing chips with T, I get annoyed when he takes one of ‘mine’ that I had my eye on. How juvenile am i?

I love potatoes. I could eat them all day – fried, mashed, boiled, you name it. They are so versatile!

I eat as little as possible beforehand if I’m going to an all-you-can-eat place. Buffets are like heaven to me.

Sometimes I barely eat anything at all during the weekend because we’ve exhausted the pantry and haven’t got around to shopping.

I eat too fast for my own good. And I get incredibly irritated if my meal is too hot to gobble down in my usual fashion. (I know you’re supposed to SAVOUR good food, but I wolf it down like I’m never going to eat again.)

Biscuits were a staple in my household growing up. My brother would go through like packet a day. I tried to keep track of how many he was eating (a LOT more than I was) because I felt like I was being cheated. My mother scoffed at me and I shut up about it.

I need a bib to eat. Seriously, the mess I am capable of making is a sight ot behold.

I can eat rice with almost anything. But I will not eat creamed rice or rice pudding. Rice should not be part of any dessert.

TODAY’S OUTFIT: (you get a face shot as I was feeling good)

  • What’s in my purse

Following on from Krystal, Frugal Dreamer and the Asian Pear sharing the contents of their purses 🙂

      Swipe card for work

  • Perfect day, 5 years from now

Frugal Dreamer had a GREAT idea for a post last week, which I am totally borrowing.

T and I both did it, and it was interesting to compare the two.

To be honest, I found it incredibly hard… I don’t know if it’s a lack of imagination, or the fact that I’m feeling a bit ambiguous about my career path and life in general… I’m not really sure what I want and so struggled to articulate where I might want to be.

We decided to pick a Thursday, approximately five years from now. We’ll both be 26, and although he’d like to have kids by then, I’m not so sure. Doing this visualisation without babies in the picture made our future life look pretty empty, actually – something I never thought I’d say!

    T

    1. What time do you wake up, and how are you feeling as you greet the day? 6am, as usual. Feeling pretty all right.
    2. Where are you? If you’re at home, what does it look like? At home, in a 2bedroom open plan house, with a nice kitchen, bathtub and garage.
    3. Who is with you? E (that’s me!)
    4. What kind of work are you doing? (if you have no idea what kind of work you’ll be doing or want to be doing, list the qualities you want to find in the work you do and the kind of work environment you want.) Environment: a clean, quiet workshop with a steady workflow, where I have my own workstation
    5. As you head out to face the day, how do you look? What are you wearing? What I’m wearing now (singlet and shorts). And shoes
    6. How do you get to work? On a mountain bike
    7. When you’re done with work, how will you spend you spare time and with whom? What activities do you enjoy? With E, watching old horror or zombie movies on my large screen TV. Fabricating in my garage, working on my toy (project) car.
    8. What is your evening like? In front of the fire with a glass of whiskey or cup of tea
    9. When you go to bed that night, how are you feeling after spending the day doing exactly what you love? Fulfilled
    10. What are you most grateful for and what are you looking forward to as you go to sleep? Spending the next day with E.

    E

    1. What time do you wake up, and how are you feeling as you greet the day? I’m up at 7, feeling energised
    2. Where are you? If you’re at home, what does it look like? In my own house (maybe a Lockwood) with big kitchen, walkin pantry, garage, ensuite bathroom and decent sized closet
    3. Who is with you? T. Maybe a pet (preferably a cat, but more likely a puppy if T has his way)
    4. What kind of work are you doing? (if you have no idea what kind of work you’ll be doing or want to be doing, list the qualities you want to find in the work you do and the kind of work environment you want.) I’m in the prime of my career, as a subeditor or a web editor, in an airy, sunny open plan office. I work in a friendly, supportive team and regularly have lunch with coworkers
    5. As you head out to face the day, how do you look? What are you wearing? I look polished and effortless (ha!) I am wearing nice jeans with a shirt and flats, because the office environment is fairly casual.
    6. How do you get to work? Walk
    7. When you’re done with work, how will you spend you spare time and with whom? What activities do you enjoy? With T. I’ll bake, catch up on blogs, watch some TV or a movie. I enjoy photography, playing guitar, travel.
    8. What is your evening like? I might catch up with friends at one of our houses for a few hours – lots of laughs, maybe a silly retro boardgame, good food.
    9. When you go to bed that night, how are you feeling after spending the day doing exactly what you love? Contented and fulfilled. Glad that it’s nearly the weekend.
    10. What are you most grateful for and what are you looking forward to as you go to sleep? T, a warm house, great job and good food.

  • Always, Sometimes, Never

From Carrie, High Class and TeacHer!

    I always…

    • eat breakfast. Not a lot – usually a half bowl of oats/cereal or a couple slices of toast. I am the dragon lady otherwise.
    • wash my hair. It’s just far too limp and greasy otherwise.
    • text random things to my friends.
    • wear lippy. And either my glasses or contacts; otherwise all I’d be good for, literally, is sitting in bed with a book thisclose to my nose.
    • get assignments in on time. I’m a nerd.
    • Stress about said assignments. I’m a worrier
    • Push it as far as I can, in terms of getting places on time. I hate waiting – whether it’s for a bus, or a meeting with someone
    • Sing/hum/move to music. Can’t keep still.
    • Bring my lunch
    • Wish I had more money to do all the things I want
    • Skim read
    • Eavesdrop on other conversations

    I sometimes…

    • exfoliate. When I remember.
    • swear a lot.
    • Fall over my own feet.
    • Splurge on things I shouldn’t.
    • Fold BF’s boxers/ socks. Yep, sexy
    • Stay up way too late watching bad TV
    • Wash my unmentionables in the machine, sans lingerie bag.

    I never…

    • make my bed. LOL
    • dye my hair.
    • Play guitar anymore.
    • Or read, for that matter. I need one of those Time Turners. I could do with an extra 12 hours in the day
    • Vacuum behind the furniture
    • exercise. Yup, I suck. I also hardly ever eat my 5plus a day, but I don’t like to admit that. Hey, at least I’m not living off noodles and pasta.

    Your turn!

  • 100 things to do before you die?

Call me unambitious, but I don’t think I could even do 50.

I want a career, marriage, house, kids, blah de blah…. Aside from that, what are my aspirations? I guess they mostly boil down to experiences, and by experiences, I mean mainly travel. Here’s my (unfinished, rough, susceptible to change) attempt to list places and things I want to go/see/do:

    • Skiing in Queenstown
      Zorbing…anywhere!
Vegas, Grand Canyon, California, NYC, maybe parts of New England
      Waiheke
Road trip around the South Island
Stay in Northland (Kauri Cliffs!!) Dolphin watching.
      Mediterranean – not fussy
      UK
Parts of Europe – not too fussed
      Hong Kong, Malaysia
      Cruise
