Why I’d never make it on The Amazing Race

These holidays I’m republishing some of my older posts for readers who might not have seen them first time around. Enjoy!

I would love to go on The Amazing Race. It’s not the ideal way to see the world, but you’d get to see some of it for sure, and not just the tourist spots! And you can’t deny it would be the experience of a lifetime.   127_amazing_race_468

I don’t know who I’d be paired with, though. I couldn’t do it with T. I know it, and he even says he couldn’t go with me. We’d probably kill each other. I’d have a breakdown on the second day and get lost in Panama City, never to be seen again. I’m a stressball at the best of times – imagine how much exponentially worse I would be on something like The Amazing Race.

And I don’t kid myself that I would make it through more than a couple of rounds at most… I suck at map reading, getting directions and finding my way round strange places. The lack of sleep, and disruption and being in loud, unfamiliar, often dirty places where they drive on the wrong side of the road would get to me. And no doubt I’d probably be edited to portray a neurotic, angry, emotional ditz.

I can definitely think of a couple of friends who I think I could do it with for shits and giggles, but again we’d probably be eliminated almost right away. I’m sure we’d have a blast along the way though.

So, could you go on the Amazing Race with your other half?
Who would you go with?
And what kind of character would they paint you as?

HAHA! i love that you said ‘the wrong side of the road.’ dearie…that’s the RIGHT side of the road!

and–yeah, ME TOO. i love the Amazing Race. Even if i were with XBF still, we would KILL each other if we made it on the show–we hated the way each other drove and he’s a yeller. I’d go on it with my mom–we watch the show together whenever I’m home. She’d love every second! However, i doubt either of us are telegenic enough to make it on the show…and i would get eliminated at the first ‘eat-this-gross-delicacy’ challenge–i gag at the drop of a hat.

If i were ever to strike it rich, i would take my mom on our own Amazing Race around the world–it’d be FANTASTIC!

i forgot to say: we’d be painted as the naive redneck hillbillies from the South–even though both of us are pretty smart. Amazing what you can do through editing… 🙂

Never go with someone you love. It’ll never work out.

I actually did something similar to the Amazing Race, but locally. It was called City Chase. Same idea, but in major cities around the world.

It was quite taxing as it was my first time doing it, but now that I’ve done it once I think the next time will be a snap!

I think they may even have the City Chase in your area, do a google search if you’re interested!

Oh yeah, I remember seeing ads for the ANZ City Chase back in March!

Grrr. Will have to check it out next year instead!

I haven’t watched an episode in years but I always thought I could make it on the show. I have no idea who I would partner with but I am really good at maps and directions.

One thing I never understood is why someone wouldn’t learn certain things before going on the show. Do they not give you any notice that you’ve been accepted and just make you fly out immediately? Because if I knew I was going to be on the show, I would at the very least, learn how to drive stick (better). I would also try to bone up a bit on my foreign languages/currency. But if they don’t give you any prep time, that would make it much harder.

I’ve only watched the show a few times, but I always picture my husband and me in the same situations as the contestants. If we could get over caring about winning and just have a good time, I think we could do it! But my husband and I are both really competitive, so… yeah, in reality we’d probably bring out the worst in each other 🙂

The last time we traveled we rented a car with GPS and still got lost. This critical skill is missing for us and it would be too embarrassing to do this on a TV show.

Ha, great topic! I can barely make it out of an airport let alone find my way around.

If I could go on the Amazing Race, I would. Sadly, you have to be American. CF and I watch it pretty religiously and would definitely do it together. We speak a number of languages and love to travel so it would be an awesome experience.

They recently announced a Canadian version, but just within Canada. I still hope to audition!

Brian forgot to add that when we watch the race, we like to call out which of us would do the individual challenges, if we were racing. Last season, Brian got stuck with eating frog fallopian tubes. 😀
