Big news: life’s about to change (and there’s no going back)

Baby fever/biological clock, whatever you want to call it, hit me hard in the past couple of years. It just crept up.

But I have always been acutely aware of the pressure that being the breadwinner places on me. What if health issues meant I had to stop work early? What if I went into labour prematurely (as happened to a coworker at my last job, whose waters broke at the office weeks early)? or what if my own, or the kid’s health, stopped me returning to work as planned?

I’m really lucky to currently have an employer that provides good benefits, including paid parental leave over and above the (pretty pathetic) legal requirements. I won’t lie, this was a big draw for me. Which brings me to my point…

I’m growing a human!

Terrifying, but exciting.

Which means … I’ve survived the first trimester, and you’ll get to hear all about my experiences with the maternity system, gripes about gender and societal stuff, and the financial side too. I Have Thoughts. And I will be sharing them.

But for now, all I have to say is: carbs are life. The aversions and appetite changes/ups and downs are no joke. I’m living for super plain food (cereal/toast etc) … or curry (what can I say, Malaysian/Indian is my comfort food). And lemonade – so much lemonade.

Haha well not necessarily together, but also not opposed to it – I was at an Indian wedding this weekend and definitely had lemonade with curry there!

Congrats!!! I also ate nothing but cereal for first trimester. Nothing else “sounded” good. And lemonade was a fave of mine, too!

    • Reply eemusings May 2, 2018 at 22:23

That makes me feel better 🙂 Whatever it takes right?

Congratulations! Wishing you all the best. Speaking as a fellow breadwinner, I started hardcore saving as soon as we found out and built up a small emergency fund. We managed to get by without dipping into it which is good because we can now use that money towards nursery fees.

Yay, congrats! Parenthood is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. Also the hardest, by a mile. But I have never laughed so hard or been hugged so tightly. You are in for a wonderful journey!

Oh my goodness! So exciting! How far along are you? I’m a little over 13 weeks pregnant myself. (I’m “advanced maternal age” –lovely term– so I will be delivering on or before 10/31.)

    • Reply eemusings May 2, 2018 at 22:19

Oh we’re basically twins! I’ll hit 15 weeks in a couple of days – started showing at about 13. Yay congrats!!

CONGRATS! Welcome to the dark side 😉

all i ate were carbs pretty much my entire pregnancy. Also, start growing a thick skin now for all the unwanted comments people will say about your body–you’ll need the thick skin for all that unwanted parental advice you’ll get when the baby gets here! (haha I guess this is sort of unwanted advice too, so there you go!! )

I begun hardcore saving as soon as we established out and made up a small urgent situation fund. We managed to obtain by without reducing into it which is fine because we can now utilize that money towards nursery charge.
