7 Deadly Sins – Envy

This is part of a seven part meme! See below for the full list.

Hereby, 7 things that I lack and/or covet:

1.     Better work hours. Yep.

2.     A house of my own. Obviously.

3.     An easy time of it. T and I are entirely self-made. We’ve been entirely on our own since 17. Without sounding self-pitying, and fully realising that we could have had it much worse, and also that I wouldn’t really want to have had helping hands from family, it’s sometimes hard not to envy, uh, everybody else that we know.

4.     Close friends, SATC style. I know, I know, it’s not realistic. But still. Also, close family. I envy those with big, loud, happy extended families. My kids won’t have pots of cousins to play with or awesome uncles and aunties who dote on them.

5.     Travel. I know we’ll get there, with diligent savings…but gosh.

6.     Charisma/ease around people. I’m just not in my element in social situations. And completely out of my depth when a work dimension is part of the mix.

7.     Better health. Better eyesight, better teeth, better skin, no allergies. I would also like to heal faster and get the flu less than, oh, four times a year? And how about throwing better coordination in there? I am the biggest klutz ever and perpetually bruised.

Day 1 – Pride. Seven great things about yourself.
Day 2 – Envy. Seven things you lack and covet.
Day 3 – Wrath. Seven things that piss you off.
Day 4 – Sloth. Seven things you neglect to do.
Day 5 – Greed. Seven worldly material desires.
Day 6 – Gluttony. Seven guilty pleasures.
Day 7 – Lust. Seven love secrets.

Close friends, SATC style is not a myth! It’s just not really likely if you’re in a long-term relationship, I guess. (Think of how many men those chicks went through, lol.) I have it. So I guess my point is that it’s possible!

Yeah girl! Where’d you get the idea that close friends, SATC style isn’t realistic? I’ve got seriously wonderful, amazingly diverse, incredibly close girlfriends galore, and at the risk of sounding like a total bitch, I’ll say that hell yes it’s something to be envied.

My friends are the very best thing about me, me thinks! haha

Hmm. You are the only person I’ve ever come across who has a SATC style group!

I’ve never had friendships like that either so to me they’re totally a myth!

Loved this post, and I agree with some of them. Oh how I wish for a house of my own.

This is a really great post that not many people would put out there, and I high five you for that. I am totally with you on pretty much all of them!

By the way, GREAT idea with this particular series. I’m going to queue up some auto-posts for the time Dude and I are abroad. 🙂

Hmm I really enjoyed this post. Maybe I’ll do this meme too…

I’ve been through a couple of SATC-styled groups throughout high school, but then people fell out because of jealousy, because of boys, all that stupid stuff… I’ve just kept the best from the group as a lone friend now, haha. I agree with Gem though – it’s probably not really going to happen if you’re in a long term relationship. Just because single ladies will have a lot more spare time, and different ideas of what they want to do with that time, y’know? And don’t worry… if you think that getting the flu four times a year is a shocker, how about a sinus infection several times a year instead? I’m already dreading it.

I have one SATC type girlfriend and I don’t know what I’d do without her. She lives 2 hours away though which is such a drag.

I envy anyone who has a great professional job that they love, but can work part time at it. I’d love to work part time, but I hate part time jobs. The available jobs just aren’t things I like to do. I need to be challenged at work or I hate it.

I had(have?) close SATC type friends back where I’m from. We’ve been friends since high school. I totally miss that and am envious of people who have it and get to keep it because I actually don’t have any friends here in NZ. I have my fiance and that’s it. So I understand the envy. I also relate to most of the others ones too, but just having a job instead of better work hours. 😉

I have a lot of amazing close relationships with my GF’s. So, fortunately for my kids, they have a lot of great “aunts” and “uncles” who spoil them rotten.
